This is the fourth Kenyan lot that we are releasing this year. This lot has beautiful notes of cooked rhubarb, strawberry yoghurt and plums.

The Thikagiki washing station was established in 1995 and today it brings together around 3500 smallholder farmers. Most farmers in this region own small plots of land around 0,1-0,5 hectares. The coffee is hand-picked, normally by family members, before being brought to the washing station. The team at the factory sort the cherries before they go into production. Unripe, overripe and other defects are carefully removed. The coffees are traditionally processed with dry fermentation for 18-24 hours, before being washed and graded in channels, and finally dried on raised beds. The farmers mainly grow SL28 and SL34, but as with almost all Kenyan cooperative coffees, there can be a mix of everything. Other common cultivars are K7, Ruiru 11 and now also Batian.

This cooperative unties a large community of smallholder farmers in Muranga’s County, overseeing the collection and processing of cherries through its central wet mills. They also ensure that proceeds from coffee sales are redistributed fairly among members after covering operational costs. We are excited to share this coffee with you.
